They're everywhere these days and for a good reason. Fuel Economy

It may not make sense initially to compare an all-electric car to a hybrid, but it's good to get down to the nitty-gritty with a good old-fashioned car battle. For example, the Nissan Leaf has a range of 226 miles on a full charge and can easily be charged at home or a charging station for those long road trips.

Whereas the Prius is a hybrid that gets up to 58 mpg in the city and 53 mpg on the highway and charges its battery by using regenerative braking technology. Or it will recharge the battery when it's depleted by using the combustion engine. With its 11.4-gallon tank, the 2022 Prius can get up to 632 miles per tank. But you're still having to budget money for gas all year long, while with the 2022 Nissan Leaf, you can finally say goodbye to the pump as you zip by it for good!

Engine

This is one category that the Leaf that beats the Prius off the line literally. Thanks to its standard electric motor, the Leaf puts out 147-horsepower, which is 26 more horses than under the hood of the 2022 Prius. If you spring for the Leaf Plus, you'll discover 214 horses to play with when you hit the gas.

The Prius comes standard with a 1.8 DOHC 4-cylinder hybrid engine that has 121 horses at your disposal, and it just doesn't even hold a candle to the 2022 Nissan Leaf, whether it's off the line or in the long run.

Safety Features

Nissan has been leading the way with their standard driver assistance and safety features inside the ProPilot Assist safety package, and the Leaf continues that tradition. The 2022 Nissan Leaf comes with a standard blind-spot warning system that uses sensors to alert you to objects in your blind spots and moves the EV back into the lane. You have to pay for an upgraded Prius to the LE/XLE/Limited trims to get a blind-spot warning system. You'll also find standard features on the Leaf like a rear cross-path warning system and even an optional Around View Monitor to help with parking on the Leaf.

Both cars come with standard driver assistance features like lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, available daytime running lights, and driver alert monitors.

Bottom Line

First things first, the bottom line is that there are really three points to zero that have been scored in favor of the Leaf. Unless you love having to stop and fill up your tank for the entire time you own your Prius.

Here's a quick recap of the ways that the Leaf beats the Prius:

More standard safety features.

Better engine performance.

Premium EV technology and capabilities.

The Prius does win out in range on one tank, but again, it is a hybrid, so you still have to use gas and burn fossil fuels.
