2023 Nissan Pathfinder vs 2023 Honda Pilot

The new Pathfinder and Pilot are both capable of holding up to 8 passengers, and they each come with many features and amazing power. But when you consider the similarities next to the clear price difference, the new 2023 Nissan Pathfinder is more likely to have everything that you want in an all-encompassing SUV at a better price.

Performance

The new Pathfinder comes equipped with a 3.5L V6 engine capable of 284 horsepower which is more than enough for most, if not all, of your travels. But with the addition of 7 different drive modes designed for driving in rough terrain like mud and rut, sand, and snow along with custom driving options such as Sport, Eco, and a Tow mode specifically for lugging around your recreational vehicles of up to 6,000 pounds, practically anything is possible. The Pathfinder also has a 9-speed automatic transmission for effortless smooth driving and four-wheel drive capability.

Meanwhile, the new Honda Pilot is only capable of towing up to 5,000 pounds despite having a similar V6 engine type with a max of 285 horsepower. One upside is that it comes with a 10-speed automatic transmission, but when you consider all the other factors, that's one minor benefit over a handful of cons for roughly $4,000 more. With that in mind, it's already hard to justify going with the Pilot, but that's only the beginning.

Safety Features

When it comes to Nissan, you can rest assured that you'll always be covered with an amazing array of standard safety features with the option to include even more in your arsenal. That being said, the 2023 Pathfinder comes with Nissan Safety Shield 360 which includes Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Rear Automatic Braking, Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning, and High Beam Assist. While this list of safety features is already fantastic on its own, you can include the available ProPILOT Assist with Navi-link for assisted highway driving or the many other available Nissan Intelligent Driving features which include:

       Intelligent Forward Collision Warning

       Intelligent Blind Spot Intervention

       Intelligent Lane Intervention

       Intelligent Around View Monitor

       Intelligent Driver Alertness

The Pathfinder can also adapt your driving experience while towing with Trailer Sway Control which actively works to keep you and your cargo balanced. Hill Start Assist and Hill Descent Control also come in handy when traversing mountain roads and other environments.

For the Honda Pilot, Honda Sensing comes with your most basic lane-keeping assists, collision warnings, and adaptive cruise control just like most vehicles nowadays with not much else for unique features other than a Collision Mitigation Braking System. Even when it comes to available options that you can add to the standard package, Nissan offers so much more with state-of-the-art technology.

Interior

Cabin experience is everything when it comes to premium SUVs, and so Nissan made sure to prioritize your comfort and entertainment in the new Pathfinder. Starting with the seating situation, you can have up to 8 passengers or 7 with captain's chairs for the second row along with heating capability. Either way, the second row utilizes an EZ FLEX system that allows you to adjust and fold the seats with minimal effort. Meanwhile, the first row of seats is climate-controlled for maximum comfort and the driver's seat has a memory system for families that frequently exchange driver roles. And to prevent any disputes regarding temperature, the Pathfinder has a very useful Tri-Zone Automatic Temperature Control feature so everyone can enjoy an optimal atmosphere no matter where they sit. But when you're craving fresh air, you can also include the available panoramic moonroof.

For entertainment value, the 2023 Pathfinder is able to support a 13-speaker Bose audio system with Acoustic Waveguide Technology for top-quality sound. The vehicle's natural sound reduction quality also comes into play for the best possible music experience. You can choose your tunes through an available 9-inch touchscreen display which blends in nicely with the surrounding 12.3-inch digital dashboard and head-up display. And of course, there's a wireless charging pad and Wi-Fi capabilities.

Like the Pathfinder, the new Pilot can also come equipped with Tri-Zone Climate Control, a 9-inch infotainment screen, a head-up display, Wi-Fi support, and a wireless device charger. And although there is also an available Bose speaker system, it only has 12 speakers instead of 13. Why would you pay more for the same tech, and of lower quality?

Bottom Line

When it comes to the engine power and cabin experience, both SUVs are somewhat similar. However, Nissan has Honda blown away in terms of safety features. That being the case, we have to give it to the 2023 Pathfinder for having a lower starting price for a better overall experience.
