2022 NISSAN KICKS vs 2022 HYUNDAI KONA
All the joys of an SUV in a compact format. If that sounds fantastic to you, then you've probably heard of the Nissan Kicks and Hyundai Kona. Both are very popular vehicles, and you may have heard varying opinions from the people you know, but which one is really better? Your friends at Maus Nissan of North Tampa put together this nifty comparison to help you decide.
2022 NISSAN KICKS vs 2022 HYUNDAI KONA
Between the Nissan Kicks and Hyundai Kona, you have two very decent competitors. But once you really look into the finer details and compare the price, the 2022 Kicks has much more to celebrate.
Performance
When it comes to the Kicks, Nissan is proud to announce the vehicle's impressive fuel economy of 31 city and 36 highway miles per gallon. Not only that, but it comes with adequate power at 122 horsepower backed by 114 lbs-ft of torque. This is all thanks to its incredible 1.6-liter Xtronic CVT engine designed for peak efficiency. To further boost the quality of your drive, the Kicks comes with dynamic driving technology such as Hill Start Assist, Intelligent Engine Brake, Intelligent Trace Control, and Active Ride Control. Electric power steering is also available to adjust the feel of the steering wheel depending on your speed to get more miles out of your tank.
The Hyundai Kona has an average mile-per-gallon rating of 35 highway miles which makes it on-par with the Kicks in that aspect. However, the Kona isn't as fancy with its engine design. The Kona can technically get up to 195 horsepower, but that's only if you go with the pricier N Line and Limited trims.
Safety Features
Safety features are a must-have in any subcompact SUV, and Nissan went above and beyond for the 2022 Kicks. Intuitive features like the Intelligent Around View Monitor and available Intelligent Cruise Control and Intelligent Driver Alertness all work in tandem to actively keep you safe from potential dangers and keep you aware of what's happening around you. The Kicks also comes with Nissan's collection of essential safety features known as the Safety Shield 360 which includes:
● Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection
● Rear Automatic Braking
● Blind Spot Warning
● Rear Cross Traffic Alert
● Lane Departure Warning
● High Beam Assist
On the other hand, the 2022 Kona doesn't have much for safety features other than the basic package consisting of collision-avoidance and lane-keeping assist technology.
Interior
For a compact vehicle, the Kicks has up to 32.3 cubic feet of cargo space so you can still pack as if you're loading up a regular-sized SUV. Smart storage is available for you to capitalize on even if you need to occupy all five seats, and your passengers will appreciate the Intelligent Climate Control. But as the driver, you have plenty of ways to spoil yourself such as zero gravity front seats to reduce your fatigue during long trips and the available Bose UltraNearfield speakers built directly into the headrest for a dynamic and personal sound experience as you drive. This Bose interface comes in three different modes: Forward frontal stage, increased envelopment, and full immersion. There's also an available Quick Comfort package which comes with heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and outside mirrors.
In terms of interior comfort and entertainment, the Kona doesn't advertise much to offer other than a slightly larger infotainment screen at 10.25 inches. Other than that, its most pronounced feature would have to be the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration along with the Hyundai Digital Key for smartphone access, but the Kicks has the same features with NissanConnect.
Bottom Line
After comparing all of the features and looking at the price difference, it's hard to argue that the 2022 Nissan Kicks is clearly the better option. It comes with so much more and for an incredibly affordable price.
