2023 Nissan Murano vs. 2023 Ford Edge

You might not believe that affordable luxury SUVs exist, but we're here to blow your mind! It's true, you don't have to pay an arm and a leg for an SUV that makes you feel right at home with all kinds of luxurious amenities. Nissan and Ford proudly offer their creations that claim to meet these criteria, but which one actually delivers the best experience? Maus Nissan of North Tampa is here to show you around the 2023 Nissan Murano and the 2023 Ford Edge to help you find the answer.

2023 Nissan Murano vs. 2023 Ford Edge

What could a luxury SUV offer on a budget? With the right creative minds and a team of dedicated engineers, you could have everything you could possibly want within your price range. While Nissan and Ford are both powerful contenders, you'll soon come to realize that Nissan has a few lovely tricks up their sleeves when it comes to the new Murano.

Performance

The latest 2023 Murano comes with a hefty 3.5L V6 engine capable of 260 horsepower supported by an Xtronic CVT. This amount of power and adaptability is enhanced with the assistance of available driving technologies such as an Intelligent All-Wheel Drive for sharp cornering, a 4-wheel independent suspension system built with rebound springs and rigid stabilizer bars, and power steering that adapts to how fast or slow you're going. The mileage rating is an impressive 20 in-city and 28 highway miles per gallon which are partly due to the Intelligent AWD.

A 2.0L EcoBoost engine comes standard in the 2023 Ford Edge, but the horsepower is a low rating of 250. There's an available 2.7L EcoBoost V6 with 335 horsepower, but it will definitely cost you and at that point, it wouldn't really be considered an "affordable" luxury SUV. Compared to the Murano, the Edge has similar fuel economy and Intelligent All-Wheel Drive, but despite the Edge having an advanced AWD system, the difference isn't too noticeable without the help of additional driving enhancement technologies to back it up like in the Murano.

Safety Features

Looking at the safety features, both the Murano and Edge come with their respective suite of standard technologies including all of the essentials. In that aspect, they both get a well-deserved gold star. You can rely on either SUV to keep an eye out for you as you drive or back out of parking spaces and take over the brakes if need be. And of course, there are cameras to give you a live visual of what's around your vehicle so you can maneuver more confidently. However, Nissan gives potential Murano buyers the option to include any of their patented "intelligent" safety features with so many to choose from:

       Intelligent Around-View Monitor

       Intelligent Forward Collision Warning

       Intelligent Cruise Control

       Intelligent Lane Intervention

       Traffic Sign Recognition

       Intelligent Driver Alertness

       Driving Aids

Interior

When driving in a 2023 Murano, you have the means to optimize your comfort however you see fit. This includes Dual Zone Temperature Control or the available Intelligent Climate Control so you can create your perfect atmosphere. Even the front seats are able to be temperature-controlled along with the added comfort of the available Zero Gravity chair design. You can easily keep your favorite seat settings with the driver memory system so achieving your personal level of comfort is never an inconvenience. Seating aside, your media can also see luxurious upgrades such as the available Bose premium audio system with 11 total speakers carefully placed throughout the cabin for the best sound experience. And you can choose to have an Advanced Drive-Assist Display to easily access and project all of your useful information directly in front of you such as:

       Turn-By-Turn Directions

       Bluetooth Audio

       Tire Pressure

       Compass

       SiriusXM Radio

Ford's attempt at creating a luxury-inspired interior is reorienting the center display in a vertical fashion. While this way seems quirky and different at first glance, this screen layout is actually very impractical to use as all of your information is awkwardly displayed in a way that you're not used to and it just feels small. Other than that, there's not much else different in the Edge. You may appreciate the overhead console with a sunglasses holder, but nothing else stands out for being considered a luxury SUV.

Bottom Line

If you're looking for an affordable SUV that has all of the fixings of a luxury-style vehicle, the new 2023 Nissan Murano will satisfy your need for comfort on the road. And with incredible power to support you wherever you go, the Murano will be a delight to take on road trips. The Edge, on the other hand, is a decent SUV but lacks the features that would put it in the same luxury category.
