2021 Nissan Maxima vs. 2021 Infiniti Q50

If you are in the market for a new luxury sedan, you are likely to check out the Nissan Maxima and the Infiniti Q50. While these vehicles look alike, how similar are they?

Our team at Maus Nissan of North Tampa discusses what these vehicles have to offer so you can get a better idea of which might be the best for your needs!

Performance

The Nissan Maxima has ample power behind it with a 3.5-liter V6 engine that generates 300 horsepower. The Maxima is agile when accelerating and braking at fast speeds is no problem. The Maxima gets a combined 24 mpg and offers a peppy pleasant ride.

The Infiniti Q50's base engine is a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 that offers 300 horsepower as well. For more power, you can opt to upgrade to the Red Sport trim which offers a 400-hp engine. While both engines are responsive, neither is outstanding, especially for a luxury sedan.

Drivers have found the Q50's seven-speed automatic transmission to be lackluster in performance and its fuel economy is slightly below average with a combined mpg of 22.

Interior

The Nissan Maxima and Infiniti Q50 both offer seating for five, a good amount of cargo room, and luxury interiors.

As far as interiors go, the Q50 has an overall design that looks outdated and less upscale than its competitors. On the plus side, the Q50 is quite comfortable to ride in and comes with a dual-screen infotainment system.

The Maxima offers a cozy, yet luxurious, cabin with a user-friendly infotainment system equipped with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and voice recognition.

Safety

Both the Maxima and Q50 have earned good safety ratings from the NHTSA and IIHS. To mitigate collisions, both luxury sedans come with multiple advanced safety features-such as forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking-though more advanced safety features come standard on the Maxima than the Q50.

Maxima Safety features include:

  • Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection
  • Rear Automatic Braking
  • Blind Spot Warning
  • Rear Cross-Traffic Alert
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • High Beam Assist
  • Daytime running lights.
  • Rear child door safety locks
  • Remote anti-theft alarm system
  • Auto delay off headlamps
  • Tire pressure monitoring system
  • Traction control
  • Emergency braking preparation
  • Front and rear airbags
  • And more!

Bottom Line

The Nissan Maxima performs better and has a more luxurious feel in its class compared to the Q50. The Maxima also comes with more standard safety features, ensuring that your family is safe while out on the road. Further, the Maxima offers better handling and a higher reliability rating than the Q50.

If you are looking for a safe, comfortable, and stylish luxury sedan, the Nissan Maxima is the way to go!
