2025 Nissan Kicks vs 2025 Chevrolet Trax
Why go ordinary when you can go extraordinary? The Kicks just had a fun refresh that sets it apart from the competition. While the Kicks and Trax may seem similar in powertrain specs, the Kicks offers a unique style that’s just as tantalizing as its sneaker-themed marketing campaign while one-upping the Trax in plenty of other aspects.
Performance
Underneath the hood of the latest Kicks lies a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine putting out 141 horsepower and 140 lb.-ft. of torque. Nissan’s CVT system has already been proven reliable, making it an excellent choice for this small and quirky compact SUV. If you need a little more oomph, the 2025 Kicks supports an available Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system. Mileage is excellent, too, with an impressive fuel rating of 28 in-city and 35 highway miles per gallon.
You might think that the Trax and Kicks have similar powertrains, but you can save yourself buyer’s remorse by thinking again. The latest Trax carries a much smaller 1.2L ECOTEC engine. Despite this engine being built for turbo, it still only puts out 137 horsepower compared to the Kick’s 141. The Trax is also built on a 6-speed automatic transmission system that will feel frustrating to drive after experiencing Nissan’s better CVT system. You’ll also get a couple fewer miles out of the Trax’s fuel rating of 32 highway MPG compared to the Kick’s 35 highway MPG.
Safety Features
Nissan Safety Shield 360 gets much well-deserved praise for offering carefully selected driver-assist features standard while being readily accessible and easy to use. You’ll get to experience this nifty package in the latest Kicks, but that’s not all. The 2025 Kicks also supports other available safety and driver-assist features like Intelligent AWD, ProPILOT Assist, and Intelligent Around View Monitor, all of which are designed to better your driving experience in the most ergonomic way possible.
The Trax comes with Chevy Safety Assist which offers 6 standard safety features, similar to Nissan’s package. But while Nissan’s driver-assist package is meant to flow well together, using Chevrolet’s features often feels like juggling completely separate systems. It’s also worth noting that some available features feel as though they should be standard for this model year, such as adaptive cruise control.
Interior
Just like the exterior design, the cabin layout of the 2025 Kicks is sneaker-themed which makes for a truly unique appearance that many would be eager to get their hands on. After all, why go with a plain-as-day interior when you can enjoy something delightfully different? Other than the stand-out style with red contrast stitching and other fun trims, you can upgrade your Kicks to have some luxurious amenities like heated seating, a heated steering wheel, a sunroof, and a dual 12.3-inch screen setup. The most unique feature is built directly into the headrests, which is the new Bose Personal Plus audio system designed to deliver immersive sound while you enjoy your drive!
Many of the available amenities in the latest Trax are roughly the same, like heated elements, wifi support, and wireless charging. But although the Trax sports red trim like the Kicks, it doesn’t quite live up to the exciting unique style of the Kick’s revamped interior theme. Tech is also lacking in the Trax with the infotainment upgrade only being 11 inches and with the absence of an immersive sound system. For being close to the same price, going with the Trax feels like an obvious downgrade in both style and technology.
Bottom Line
There’s much more to love about the new 2025 Nissan Kicks which we went over in our review roundup of this particular model. The bottom line here, however, is that the new Kicks offers a fun and memorable experience with its distinct approach to style and incredible features on a budget-friendly car. The Trax proves to be slightly less powerful and has a comparatively plain look.
