2024 Nissan Altima vs 2024 Toyota Camry
Starting at similar price points, the Altima and Camry are among the most popular sedans in America. It’ll be difficult to go on a single drive without passing by either of these cars, and an even greater challenge to uncover which is the best of the two.

Both of them are excellent sedans in their own right, but from our personal experience, Nissan continues to be ahead of the game with upgraded features that are exclusive to the brand name. And yes, these upgrades are definitely worth your attention! Take a look:

Performance
We love introducing people to the distinct feel of driving a new Nissan, and it always ends with them being in complete awe at the intuitive nature of the actively adapting layout. The Xtronic CVT system that’s included in the new Altima is something that can technically be explained, but even better to experience it yourself. Active Ride Control and Intelligent Trace Control are expertly combined to fine-tune your precision and handling, but there’s even more to behold. The 2024 Altima’s upgraded 2.0L Variable Compression Turbo engine is designed to automatically raise and lower your pistons to achieve peak balance through both power and efficiency.

There’s a clear difference in drivetrain quality between the Altima and the Camry. While the latest Camry offers decent engines (a standard 2.5L and an available 3.5L V6), they’re expected to carry your driving experience almost single-handedly. It comes with a regular 8-speed automatic transmission, and the only available upgrades are the sport-tuned suspension and all-wheel drive.

Safety Features
ProPILOT Assist has been creating a lot of buzz with its dynamic and easy-to-use take on highway driving assistance, and you can include it as an available option in the new Altima. But even if you decide not to go with the ProPILOT upgrade, every 2024 Altima is guaranteed to have Nissan’s Safety Shield 360 package with a carefully selected handful of helpful features. The new Altima also supports an Intelligent Around View Monitor and Intelligent Forward Collision Warning, both being enhanced versions of popular driver assist features.

Intelligent Around View Monitor Intelligent Forward Collision Warning
Get a 360 view of your surroundings while receiving moving object alerts in real-time. Includes top-down, front, rear, and curbside views with split-screen capability. Receive warnings of a possible collision with active monitoring of up to two vehicles ahead of you.

If you’re curious about the latest technology but don’t want to stray too far from the realm of everyday sedans, the Altima would be the best way to grant you a taste of modern capability with its increased safety tech lineup. What about the Camry? Toyota’s popular sedan comes with Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ which is nearly identical to Nissan’s Safety Shield 360 package, but Toyota’s engineers didn’t leave room for much else in the Camry. If you ask for average, that’s exactly what you’ll find in Toyota’s competing sedan.

Interior
Dynamic driving features and modern safety tech are already a lot to appreciate, but the Altima strives to be so much more, allowing you to live in comfort surrounded by style. Zero Gravity seats in the front offer welcome relief, reducing the fatigue you would normally feel from repetitive drives or exhausting road trips. And while you’re maxing and relaxing, your eyes can dance across lovely matte chrome accents and carbon fiber trim. Add some spice to your drive with an available 12.3-inch infotainment center and 9-speaker Bose audio system enhanced with Active Noise Cancellation!

Again, ask for basic and you shall receive with Toyota’s latest Camry. The SofTex trim is laid on regular chairs which are sure to make you sore after plopping into them day after day. You could deck out your Camry in leather trim, but keeping that leather in top shape with regular care might not fit into your busy schedule. The infotainment screen only goes up to 9 inches, setting the Camry back an era while many other brands are already normalizing 12.3-inch screens.

Bottom Line
Just because you want an average or ordinary sedan to get you through the day doesn’t mean you need to settle for less. The new 2024 Nissan Altima proves that you can enjoy an affordable car with a sporty and semi-luxury experience. The Camry takes “basic” seriously which may sound appealing to someone who is just looking for the bare necessities, but for around the same price, why not treat yourself to something special?
