2024 Nissan Murano vs 2024 Honda Passport
The latest Nissan Murano starts at a couple thousand less than the Passport, but that’s not an accurate indicator of the quality. Despite being more affordable than its competitor, the Murano continues to surprise us with optimal performance and high-end features found throughout the alluring cabin. The Honda Passport may be enough for some families, but we always encourage our readers to strive for more, especially when it comes for less.
Performance
Luxury isn’t just found in appearance, but also in function. The Murano proudly delivers an exceptional driving experience with a standard 3.5L V6 engine capable of up to 260 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque, meaning that it can handle itself pretty well on various terrain. This is especially true with Nissan’s exclusive Xtronic CVT system designed for smooth and intuitive handling. It would be hard to imagine riding in luxury when the vehicle jolts and spurts, but you don’t have to worry about that thanks to Nissan! The independent front suspension and multi-link rear suspension help absorb shock and maintain stabilization so every drive feels like butter. Ask us to demonstrate the available Intelligent AWD system the next time you come down so you can experience traction that automatically adapts to the situation.
What’s more important to you, a bit more horsepower or significantly better mileage? Most would choose mileage, which makes sense when you think about daily commutes and vacation trips. The 2024 Honda Passport has comparatively poor mileage in this case, with 19 in-city and 24 highway miles per gallon while the 2024 Nissan Murano has a much higher fuel rating of 20/28 MPG. The Passport also has a regular 9-speed automatic transmission system which is much less exciting than Nissan’s Xtronic CVT in the Murano.
Safety Features
When it comes to your safety on the road, the new Murano has it all. Aside from the expected (and greatly appreciated) Nissan Safety Shield 360 package with 6 standard features, the Murano offers additional support with these available features:
- Intelligent Forward Collision Warning
- Intelligent Cruise Control
- Intelligent Around View Monitor
- A front dash cam

2024 Honda Passport
Starting at $41,900
Honda continues to include the usual in the latest Passport, despite it being a luxury vessel which should equate to more features. Honda Sensing and the ACE body structure isn’t anything that you can’t get in less expensive models. The only safety feature that stands out in the Passport is the walk-away auto lock, but that might not mean anything to the average person who makes a habit of locking their car anyway. The Passport also has a blind spot information system, cross traffic monitor, rearview camera, and rear seat reminder, but those have already been done a hundred times over. Who can say that their dash cam came with their car? Murano owners can.
Interior
The Murano’s cabin is more than one of the most stylish we’ve seen in recent years. It’s also equipped with everything you would expect a luxury SUV to have, and then some. You can rest assured that the front seats can be both heated and ventilated and even the rear seats have heating elements so everyone can stay happy and warm during the winter. For family SUVs that share multiple drivers, memory seating options are available for easy trips without the hang-ups. The available panoramic moonroof is a refreshing feature for everyone to enjoy, and the available 11-speaker Bose audio system effortlessly amps up the vibes. Where the Murano goes the extra mile is in the new remote-activated welcome lighting with puddle lights included for an ultimate “red carpet” experience.
Honda’s idea of luxury is very different, and it doesn’t quite match our definition of high standards. Heated seating and a power moonroof are a couple of things that they got right, but everything else is up to taste. A perfect example is the higher-priced Trailsport trim which features orange “Trailsport” logos on all of the headrests. For the price you pay, you might not want to be bombarded with a big orange logo every time you get into the vehicle.
Bottom Line
Nissan found the perfect blend of fashion and function in the new 2024 Nissan Murano, and for a lower starting price than the Passport. We can’t seem to justify the higher price of Honda’s new Passport, and we especially can’t look over their odd sense of style. You’ll have a better chance of keeping the entire family happy with the Murano’s striking appearance and useful features that are anything but ordinary.
