2024 Nissan Pathfinder vs 2024 Chevrolet Traverse

Can you think of an SUV that’s decked out with everything you could possibly want? You just described the new 2024 Nissan Pathfinder with its seemingly endless array of add-on features. This is our favorite part of this popular ride, so much so that we’re willing to give up just a wee bit of horsepower if it means getting the ultimate SUV experience. In comparison, the Chevy Traverse is devoid of such spirit.

Performance

When it comes down to it, the new 2024 Nissan Pathfinder does what it needs to do. It offers 284 horsepower and 259 lb-ft of torque on a 3.5L Direct Injection Gasoline (DIG) V6 getup, and you can even reach 295 HP on the Rock Creek trim. It also offers decent mileage with 20 in-city and 27 highway miles per gallon. Tow up to 6,000 pounds and adapt your drive with 7 different modes, all on a 9-speed automatic transmission. You really don’t need much more, even if you plan on taking the Pathfinder out into the woods.

The 2024 Traverse technically offers a bit more horsepower, but not by much. Its 2.5L Turbo brings you up to 328 horsepower and the fuel rating is practically identical to the Pathfinder. The Traverse is also built on an 8-speed while the Pathfinder offers a 9-speed. So as you can see, a bit more HP is about all you’re getting from Chevrolet.

Safety Features

The availability of safety features is where things start to get a little more interesting. Safety Shield 360 being included in the new Pathfinder goes without saying as it’s how you get all of your basics, but we’re more impressed with the number of additional features to better secure your ride such as:

  • ProPILOT Assist with Navi-Link
  • Intelligent Forward Collision Warning
  • Intelligent Around View Monitor
  • Hill Start Assist
  • Hill Descent Control

Likewise, the Traverse comes standard with Chevy Safety Assist which houses your essentials. Nothing wrong with that, of course, but it’s the lack of additional features that we’re more concerned with. Nissan’s ProPILOT system was groundbreaking since its launch and it’s been fine-tuned over the years with improvements like Navi-Link optimization. Where is this level of dedication from Chevy? The only additional features that the Traverse supports that are worth mentioning are Lateral Impact Avoidance and Blind Zone Steering Assist. Both of these features are rather uncommon, but nothing beats real-time GPS-integrated guidance.

Interior

The available options for the 2024 Pathfinder are even more abundant when it comes to the interior. First, what comes standard? Much of it involves the flexibility of storage space and similar amenities, like under-floor storage cubbies and the removable center console in the back row. The pass-through console up front is also a nice touch for opening up the atmosphere. Speaking of atmosphere, the Tri-Zone Automatic Temperature Control system does an excellent job of keeping all passengers comfortable. As far as optional features go, here are some of our favorites:

  • EZ-FLEX second-row captain’s chairs
  • Climate-controlled front seats
  • 12.3-inch digital dashboard with 3 themes
  • 13-speaker Bose audio system
  • Panoramic moonroof
  • Wireless charging pad
  • Wifi hotspot support

A couple of pros that we have to hand to the Traverse are that it has room for up to 98 cubic feet of cargo space (the Pathfinder has 80.5 max) and it comes standard with a 17.7-inch infotainment screen. While both of these features are nice, Chevrolet neglected pretty much everything else that makes for a great SUV. We can easily skip over a big screen if it means we get to enjoy an easier time in the Pathfinder with sliding captain’s chairs, tri-zone climate control, and clever storage spaces.

Bottom Line

The Chevy Traverse may offer a couple of improvements here and there, but it’s nowhere near enough to tip the scales in this argument. The new 2024 Nissan Pathfinder has too much going on with it to pass up, like advanced driver-assist features and a load of interior upgrades. For a truly fun and adaptable ride, the Pathfinder is the way to go.
