Performance
The 2025 Nissan Leaf is perfect for your daily drives through town and back with the standard model. Its 40-kWh battery can take you around 149 miles on a full charge backed by a decent rating of 147 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque. Coming at such a low price, this is an ideal choice for those who spend most of their days just going to work, to school, or to the store and back home where you can hook the Leaf right back up to your personal charging station. Need a little more kick? The available 60-kWh battery for the 2025 Leaf can store up to 212 miles on a full charge and deliver up to 214 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque.
The 2025 Nissan Leaf also supports these energy-saving features:
- e-Pedal (one-pedal driving)
- Eco mode
- Instant torque
- 3 ways to charge
When comparing horsepower, you’ll see that the Leaf and IONIQ 6 are fairly similar. The 2025 IONIQ 6’s standard model delivers up to 149 HP with the upgraded model being capable of up to 225 HP. Go a step higher, and you can achieve up to 320 horsepower. But of course, doing so comes at a high price that not everyone is willing to pay when saving money and energy are the primary reasons for going all-electric in the first place. The IONIQ 6 can support up to 342 miles on a full charge depending on the trim you choose. But as we said earlier, most drivers will just hook up their ride as soon as they get home before they use up that many miles anyway.
Safety Features
Going with a high-tech EV should come with advanced safety features, and the Nissan Leaf effortlessly passes the test. Nissan Safety Shield 360 gives you 6 standard safety features right off the bat for general coverage of your front, rear, and sides with automatic braking in tight situations. If you want the full package, you can ask your trusted Nissan dealer about the available ProPILOT Assist package to equip your Leaf with more intuitive guidance. Other add-ons include Intelligent Around View Monitor and Intelligent Forward Collision Warning.
Hyundai SmartSense and Highway Driving Assist in the IONIQ 6 are basically Hyundai’s version of Safety Shield 360 and ProPILOT Assist, although they’re not as easy to navigate for some drivers. The availability of additional features doesn’t impress us much, either. The IONIQ 6’s blind spot monitor feels useless next to the Leaf’s around-view camera which covers every angle, and if we had to choose between a more advanced forward collision warning system and remote parking, we would easily prioritize collision prevention in the Leaf.
Interior
Just as the Leaf is practical in both price and performance, it is also incredibly efficient in its interior layout and overall functionality. Nissan designed everything to be simple yet enjoyable in more ways than one. The Leaf proves to be a reliable road companion with up to 30 cubic feet of cargo space in the back and a customizable driver display that you can fine-tune to your liking in the front. Automatic temperature control paired with heated seats and steering wheel get you comfortable faster so you can get in and go with a few extra minutes to spare.
The IONIQ 6 has much of what the Nissan Leaf has like automatic temperature control and heated elements in the seats and steering wheel, but the practicality is lost on leather trim which is harder to care for and maintain. With efficiency being the goal, these hindrances disguised as luxury will only slow you down and potentially hurt your wallet in repairs and upkeep. The trunk also feels more on the cramped side with only 11.2 cubic feet to spare.
Bottom Line
Don’t be tricked into paying more than you need to. The Hyundai IONIQ 6 may be all the rage, but you’ll be regretting your choice when your pockets end up empty. The 2025 Nissan Leaf offers the ride you need to tackle your day with pride knowing that you’ve saved yourself a lot of time and money while still enjoying the finer life of an EV owner.
