2023 Nissan Z Trim Levels Sport, Performance _ Proto Post

The newly redesigned Nissan Z for the 2023 model year will be available in two trim grades, the Sport and Performance models. Nissan is also releasing a limited-edition model of the Z called the Proto Spec, which will only see a run of 240 units.

Intrigued? Our team at Maus Nissan North Tampa breaks down the features and enhancements found on the Sport, Performance, and Proto trims.

Powertrain

All 2023 Nissan Z models come equipped with a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 that produces 400 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque. Power is routed to the rear wheels with either a six-speed manual transmission that comes standard or an optional nine-speed automatic.

Choosing a manual Z Performance model adds SynchroRev Match, a rev-matching feature that was pioneered by Nissan on the 370Z. The optional nine-speed automatic transmission features Launch Control, and the Performance trim gets GT-R-inspired paddle shifters.

Suspension & Braking

To improve handling and driver feedback in the seventh generation Z Sport, Nissan has engineered an enhanced tuned chassis, cooling, suspension, and steering. Plus, up front, a double-wishbone aluminum suspension system has new geometry that includes an increased caster angle, which improves straight-line tracking and high-speed stability.

To stiffen the front structure, the Z comes with a front strut tower base and a reconfigured multi-link suspension system. To improve cornering, wider tires, larger monotube shocks, and enhanced rigidity have been included. A sportier suspension calibration system is available on the Performance trim.

In terms of braking, the Z Performance gets slightly larger rotors—14.0-inch in the front, and 13.8-inch in the rear. It comes with floating aluminum calipers that are finished in red.

The Sport comes with 12.6-inch rotors up front and 12.1-inch units in the rear with fixed two-piston front calipers and single-piston rears.

All Performance models also come equipped with a mechanical clutch-type limited-slip differential.

The Z Performance rides on 19-inch Rays lightweight forged alloy wheels, and the Z Sport features 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels.

Interior

The Nissan Z includes a standard 12.3-inch digital display for maximum usability on both trims. Buyers can choose between a black, red, or blue interior for either Z model.

A programmable shift indicator is placed at the 12 o’clock position on the manual transmission models, and three analog gauges are angled towards the driver on top of the dash.

Every 2023 Z features a newly designed ergonomic shift knob and sport bucket seats that were inspired by the GT-R seat design.

Sport models come outfitted with 8-way manually adjustable black woven cloth seats for the driver and 4-way for passengers. The Performance model adds leather seats that are both 4-way adjustable and heated.

The Z Sport comes with an 8.0-inch touchscreen, and the Z Performance gets a 9.0-inch touch screen equipped with Nissan Connect Services and navigation.

Another upgrade on the Performance model is an eight-speaker Bose audio system which offers active noise cancellation and active sound enhancement.

There is no difference in standard safety equipment on either trim. Features include:

  • Lane departure warning
  • Automatic braking with pedestrian detection
  • Intelligent cruise control
  • And more

Z Proto Spec Edition

Limited to just 240 vehicles, the Nissan Z Proto Spec comes with a six-speed manual transmission and features bronze-colored 19-inch wheels, yellow brake calipers, leather seats with yellow accents, and an exclusive Proto shift lever shift knob.

Additional features include:

  • Yellow interior stitching
  • Suede and cloth door trim panels
  • Proto Spec badging
