Pricing

At an MSRP of just around 20k, the Kicks is one of the most affordable subcompact SUVs on the market today.

Of course, there are different trim levels available including:

S: $20, 790

SV: 22,650

SR: 23, 350

As you can see, even the top trim level is quite affordable!

Performance & Engine

Regardless of the trim level you choose, the engine is the same across vehicles. Under the hood, you’ll find a naturally aspirated 1.6 L inline 4-cylinder engine creating 122 horsepower at 6300 RPM and 114 lb-ft of torque.

The engine is paired with a continuous variable transmission (CVT) with a 0-60 mph acceleration of 10.1 seconds. Not bad!

Gas-wise, you’ll get 31 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway with regular unleaded fuel.

Driving

The Kicks only comes with one drive mode— the Sport Driving Mode , which is hidden on the shifter. There is a button with a horizontal line that when pressed will adjust the throttle response and shift points giving you a little better acceleration when merging on the highway.

Four-wheel ventilated disc brakes come standard on the Kicks with a 60-0 stopping distance in just 119 feet which is pretty impressive!

In front, the Kicks is equipped with independent strut-type front suspension, and in the back, it has a torso and beam rear axle. Also in the front, you’ll find a front stabilizer bar.

The steering is direct and responsive with little feedback coming up from the road.

Because the Kicks is a sub-compact, you’ll have no problem with visibility no matter if you are on the highway or commuting in the city.

Exterior

At the front of the Kicks, you’ll find a V-Motion grille finished in chrome for the S and SV trim levels but finished in dark chrome if you were to get the SR.

Automatic halogen headlights come standard on the S and SV trims, with an automatic high beam feature that will shut off your high beams if they are engaged when the vehicle senses another vehicle coming in the opposite direction. Then it will automatically turn the high beams back on once the vehicle has passed.

The SR trim level comes equipped with LED headlights with LED daytime running lights, signature lighting, and LED fog lights.

Silver roof rails come standard on the SV, while black roof rails come on the SR trim. Silver exterior door trim also comes on the SR but in matte black on the S.

The SV and SR have body-colored door handles and body-colored side mirrors on the SV and glass black side mirrors on the SR. The S trim comes with matte black side mirrors. These are upgraded in the SV and SR trims to have heating, and LED turret-style turn signals are included in the side mirrors only on the SR trim.

Looking down at the wheels, the S-trim Kicks is equipped with steel 16-inch wheels, while the SV and SR trims get 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels.

At the back, there is a body-colored rear spoiler and shark fin as well as Kicks badging and a body-colored rear diffuser.

Under the passenger side, you’ll see a single exhaust outlet.

Interior & Cargo

The Kicks has a manual tailgate with 35.4 cubic feet of cargo space. For extra space, the seats fold down in a 60-40 split. You’ll also find some cargo tie-downs and cargo lighting. The spare tire is found under the cargo cover.

In the back seat, the Kicks has 33.5 inches of legroom, as well as dual rear USB charging ports as standard in all trims which you don’t often find in more affordable vehicles.

Moving to the front, you’ll find manually adjustable cloth seats in all trim levels. In the SR trim, you will find a sport cloth with orange stitching. Leatherette is available, as well as optional heated seats.

The steering wheel is flat-bottomed and offers tilt and telescoping and comes wrapped in leather in the SR trim. You’ll also find an optional heating steering wheel on the SR.

Tech Features

Nissan’s infotainment system is intuitive and easy to learn. In the base trim, you’ll find a 7-inch touchscreen, while in the SV and SR, it is slightly larger at 8-inches. All Kicks come standard with a six-speaker audio system, though the SR model can be upgraded to include a Bose stereo system.

Safety Features

There are several standard driver-assistance technologies in the Kicks and automated emergency braking is standard in all trims.

Notable safety features include:

  • Standard automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection
  • Standard lane-departure warning
  • Available adaptive cruise control

As you can see, though this sub-compact SUV is more affordable than many on the market today, it offers a host of amazing features and its performance is unmatched!
