2024 Nissan Leaf vs 2024 Kia Niro EV
As electric vehicles gain popularity in the automotive industry, drivers are faced with even more choices when it comes to choosing an eco-friendly vehicle. The Nissan Leaf has long been a popular option for budget-conscious buyers, and today, our sales team at Maus Nissan of North Tampa compares the fan-favorite with a newer contender on the market, the 2024 Kia Niro EV.
Both vehicles are attractive options for those who want to switch to an EV, but which one will come out on top? We have our guesses, but let’s explore the differences between these two EVs!
2024 Nissan Leaf
The 2024 Nissan Leaf has an MSRP of $28,140 for the base S trim. This makes it the least expensive EV on the market, and it is also eligible for a $3,750 federal tax credit from the government.
Upgrading to the SV Plus trim means that the EV will come equipped with a larger battery pack with a longer driving range of 212 miles. The best part? Even this upgraded EV starts at a reasonable $36,190.
Our favorite features include:
- Comfortable Front Seats: The moment you sit down in the Leaf, you are wrapped in comfort from Nissan’s Zero Gravity seats. You can’t beat it!
- Nissan Connect EV: This smartphone app comes standard with the Leaf EV Plus. It allows you to check how much battery life your Leaf has left, and even lets you adjust the cabin temperature all with a phone!
- ProPilot Assist: The Leaf SV Plus comes quipped with this semi-automonous driving aid which blends adaptive cruise control with a lane-centering feature.
2024 Kia Niro
The Kia Niro EV comes in two models: Wind and Wave. Starting at $39,600 for the base Wind model, and $44,600 for the upgraded Wave model, Kia’s version of an EV is quite more expensive than the Leaf.
Some notable highlights of the Niro include:
- Safety Features: such as blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic warning, etc.
- Dual-Screen Display: A 10.25-inch digital instrument display sits on the dash alongside a 10.25-inch touchscreen.
- Vegan Leather: All of Niro’s seating surfaces are vegan, made from a material called “Tencel.”
Bottom Line
The Leaf and Niro are both less expensive compact 5-door hatchbacks that are great entry-level vehicles in the EV market. While the base Leaf S doesn’t offer the same amount of driving range as the Niro, the SV Plus does a great job with 212 miles, slightly under the mileage offered by the Niro.
Though the Niro may offer more mileage and have a few more technology options like those larger 10.2-inch touchscreens, the fan-favorite Leaf still receives our appreciation as it offers tons of value with a smaller price tag.
If you want a little more driving range, we recommend upgrading to the SV Plus, which still gets you in under the Niro price-wise, but offers 212 miles of range, which isn’t something to scoff at!
Plus, the Leaf carries a lot more cargo than the Niro!
