2024 Nissan Rogue vs. 2024 Mazda CX-5

Are you thinking about buying a new 2024 Nissan Rogue but still considering your options? We get it. There are a lot of compact SUVs out there, so it can sometimes be hard to make a decision. While you may have come across competitors like the 2024 Mazda CX-5, we’re here to tell you, that the Nissan Rogue would still be our top pick.

Ready to see why? Follow along as our team at Maus Nissan of North Tampa compares the two with help from our friends at Walser Automotive Group.

Exterior

For 2024, the Rogue got a small refresh to the exterior with a subtle change to the V-Motion grill and some updated styling. Plus, it gets signature LED daytime running lights and headlights as well as parking sensors at the back.

The CX-5 also gets LED daytime running lights but it does not have the parking sensors that come on the Rogue.

Performance

When looking at performance, the 2024 Nissan Rogue is an excellent choice with a 1.5 L 3-cylinder turbocharged engine that creates about 201 horsepower and 35 miles per gallon on the highway and 28 in the city. The Rogue’s engine is also paired with a Continuously Variable Transmission, also called a CVT.

The 2024 Mazda CX-5 offers a similar level of performance with a 2.5 4 L 4-cylinder engine, but it does fall short in terms of fuel efficiency, with 29 miles per gallon on the highway. The CX-5’s engine is paired with a traditional 6-speed automatic transmission.

Cargo Space

Both models come with a power liftgate with an almost identical amount of cargo space.

Interior + Technology

When we look at interior comfort and technology features, this is where the Nissan Rogue truly shines. It has a spacious yet stylish interior with supportive seats and a user-friendly infotainment system. Other notable features include:

  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Primatex seats
  • Heated seats for driver and passenger
  • Heated steering wheel
  • Cargo cubby under the shifter
  • Apple CarPlay
  • Android Auto
  • 2 USB-C ports
  • Standard backup camera
  • Digital gauge cluster
  • Paddle shifters on the steering wheel to change the drive mode

Plus, the Rogue’s rear door swings open to 90 degrees, which makes it easier to load groceries or put your child in a car seat. Something you don’t see much on many SUVs!

When compared, the 2024 Mazda CX-5 also has a stylish and comfortable interior, but it lacks some of the advanced technology and refinement that is found in the Nissan Rogue. It comes with standard USB ports instead of USB-Cs and has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A heated steering wheel is an upgrade. It also has a sunroof, but it is a partial, not a full panoramic. The gauge cluster is a traditional setup but has a smaller digital gauge on the right side.

Safety Features

The Rogue comes equipped with a variety of advanced safety features to keep drivers and their passengers safe on the road. From a comprehensive suite of driver assistance features to its top safety ratings from the IIHS and NHTSA, the Rogue is the top choice for those who value safety.

Safety features include:

  • Forward collision warning
  • Blind spot warning
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Lane departure warning
  • Emergency braking assist
  • Rear cross-traffic alert
  • And more!

The CX-5 also offers a similar range of safety features, but they don’t quite match the level of security provided by the Rogue with Nissan’s ProPilot Assist.

Value

The Rogue is a fan-favorite SUV for a reason. It offers an amazing combination of comfort, performance, and safety all at a competitive price point. What’s not to love about that?

While the CX-5 also has several appealing qualities, it is more expensive than the Rogue and doesn’t quite offer that blend of features and value that most consumers are looking for.
