There are A LOT of compact SUVs on the market nowadays. The SUV segment is popular with commuters, adventurers, families, and everything in between. One SUV that has stood the test of time is the Nissan Rogue which has been heavily refreshed for the 2024 model year.

Today, our team at Maus Nissan of North Tampa puts the Platinum trim level of the Nissan Rogue to the test against another popular vehicle in the SUV segment, the Toyota RAV4 Limited.

What’s Under the Hood?

Let’s start by taking a look under the hood. Equipped with a 1.5-liter variable compression turbocharged 3-cylinder engine, the Platinum Rogue offers 201 horsepower and 225 lb-ft of torque.

It also comes with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and 31 miles per gallon combined fuel efficiency for this AWD model.

The Toyota RAV4 Limited has a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with 203 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. It comes equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission and offers 29 miles per gallon combined (city/highway).

Exterior

As stated, the 2024 Nissan Rogue Platinum has undergone a significant update for the 2024 model year. The V-motion grille has been widened, giving the front end of the SUV a new look, plus, it has a nice gloss black finish that sets it off. The Platinum has chrome bars incorporated into the grille that give the Rogue a polished look.

The headlights are full LED, with daytime running lights and turn signal indicators at the top, and reflector LEDs for the low and the high beams.

Looking toward the back the spoiler has a more sporty aggressive look and there is an exposed rear wiper. The tail lights have been updated for 2024, with inner elements that are slightly different. The Rogue branding has also been changed to a new gray color.

The Platinum Rogue comes with 19-inch alloy wheels with a new spoke design with darker tones for a nice contrast. Plus, exclusive to the Platinum trim level are gloss black wheel surrounds.

Interior Features

The amount of luxury inside the 2024 Platinum Rogue may be surprising if you haven’t climbed into a Rouge in a while. One of the best features is the semi-aniline leather seats, with a luxurious quilted design.

The driver’s seat is 8-way power-adjustable and two-way lumbar support. The Platinum level has 2-driver memory seats and comes with a 12.3-inch full digital gauge cluster with crisp graphics. The Premium Package adds a 10-inch head-up display. Plus, it is equipped with a 360-degree camera with stunning resolution and moving object detection.

Three-zone climate control is standard in the Platinum trim, as well as 3-stage heated seats. It also has a 10-speaker Bose audio system. The infotainment display is 12.3-inch and runs on Android Auto plus built-in Google apps. Wireless AppleCar Play and Android Auto are standard for 2024.

Cargo-wise, it has ample space for passengers and is on par with rivals such as the RAV4 and Honda CRV. Plus, there are standard rear-window sunshades for the back seats, which is really great for people who have children or pets.

Safety

The Platinum Rogue comes with ample standard safety features including:

• Forward emergency braking
• Auto high beams
• Rear auto braking
• Lane-keeping assist
• Adaptive cruise control

The RAV4 Limited does not have a head-up display and comes with a 10.5-inch infotainment system. A 12.3-inch reconfigurable gauge display is also included in the RAV4 Limited.

So, Does the Rogue Beat the RAV4?

Overall, while similar, the Rogue offers a more luxurious interior and more safety and technology features. Plus, if you look at the performance specs, the Rogue beats out the RAV4 there as well.

Though similar in many ways, the Rogue Platinum beats out the RAV4 Limited for our top pick. No surprise there!
