Is There an Even More Powerful Nissan Z In the Works?

The 2023 Nissan Z has added a dose of excitement to the vehicle market that is dominated by crossovers and SUVs. But for some, its twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 with 400 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft of torque just isn’t enough.

It’s ok, Nissan knows this, and Paul Hawson, Nissan’s director of advanced product planning and strategy has alluded that a more powerful Z car may be in the works. Here’s what we know so far!

Is There a Potential Nismo-Tuned Z on the Horizon?

There have already been slightly altered variants of the Z car tested in Los Angeles, which leads us to believe that an amped-up Z car is on the way.

We’re hoping that Nissan will introduce a Nismo-branded Z car or more performance accessories and enhancements for the existing car.

But if Hawson’s comments ring true, we are guessing that Nissan will lean towards introducing a more hardcore variant of the Z. Products like the Z make a statement, and Hawson hopes that the Z will help rekindle the world’s love affair with sports cars.

Though the Nissan executive hasn’t confirmed that the Nismo Z is on the way, it is clear that something more exciting just might be on the way.

What Could We Expect from a Hypothetical Nismo Z?

So, what should we expect from the hypothetical Nismo Z? Well, as Hawson said, the Z can currently handle more than 400 hp. We’d expect around 450 horsepower under the hood, along with revised suspension and braking to rein it in.

Perhaps there might also be a weight reduction in the form of lightened body panels or fewer luxuries.

On a Nissan Z that was tested on a racetrack, there were several aesthetic enhancements with a large rear wing, more prominent side skirts, and different front fenders. Could this be in preparation for a race-ready model? Or just beefier styling for the Nismo trim?

If anything, Nissan is clearly developing a new sporty interaction of the popular Z. No matter the final product, this is good news for sports car enthusiasts. If we’re lucky, it might be unveiled at the next LA Auto Show in November.

What’s Up with the 2023 Nissan Z?

Though we might be waiting for a possible Nismo iteration, the 2023 Z still packs a punch! Powered by a 400-hp twin-turbocharged V6 engine and a six-speed manual or nine-speed automatic transmission, we are very impressed by the 2023 Z’s playful handling and zippy acceleration.

The Z also had a technology update for 2023 with new touchscreen infotainment, a reconfigurable digital gauge display, and ample driver-assistance features.

The new Z ups the ante with luxurious features and more desirable styling. The mid-range Performance trim adds a sportier suspension tuning, a limited-slip differential, upgraded brakes, 19-inch wheels, summer tires, and power-adjustable seats. Nice!

• SiriusXM satellite radio
• Apple CarPlay

• A standard six-speaker audio system, but an upgraded Bose system is available
