Review Roundup 2022 Nissan Leaf Post

The Nissan Leaf has often been overlooked when people talk about EVs since its introduction in 2010, but the 2022 Leaf is garnering some attention, as it is now the least expensive EV on the market and offers 100 miles of range too!

If you are in the market for an EV, you’ll want to give the new 2022 Nissan Leaf a test drive to see what it’s all about. But in the meantime, here is our review of this small but mighty EV!

Release Date, Pricing, and Trim Levels

The 2022 Nissan Leaf is available to purchase now and comes in five different trim levels. The lower-end Leaf S comes with a 40-kWh battery and an estimated 149-mile range and starts at $27,400. But after you take a $7,500 tax credit into account, you hit that nice $20k price point.

The top-of-the-line Leaf SL Plus offers 215 miles per charge and a price tag of $37, 400. It includes Bose speakers and partial leather seats for that upgraded feel.

The S Plus has a 62-kWh battery and 226 miles of range for a price of $32, 400, and the SV Plus has a slightly lower range of 215 miles but includes 17” aluminum-alloy wheels, LED headlights, ProPilot assist, optional Door to Door Navigation, and an all-around camera system for $35, 400.

Range, Battery, and Charging

With 215 miles of range, the Nissan Leaf has a middling range. If you drive a lot in hot weather and use the AC a lot, this may impact your range. Wind resistance and other environmental factors also ultimately play a part in the battery range.

The Leaf comes with two charge ports. One is the faster CHAdeMO charge port that charges at speeds between 50 kW and 100 kW depending on which Leaf model you purchase. This can give you an 80% charge in around 40 minutes.

The Leaf also has a Type 1 AC charger that can plug into an electrical socket with an adapter or a fast home charger. Using a standard 120-volt electrical socket to charge your Leaf can take over two days, but most homeowners likely have a dedicated charging station in their garage, which would give their Leaf a full charge in around 11.5 hours.

Drive Modes

Starting the Leaf is as easy and seamless as pushing a button. It comes with a few driving modes, but most drivers will keep it on Eco for the best driving range, and e-pedal mode allows the driver to use one pedal for both acceleration and braking.

Interior & Cargo

While other EVs are designed to be futuristic inside, you may find that the Nissan Leaf is plain and offers no frills. It does have comfy plush leather seats and a slightly fuzzy Alcantara steering wheel, but its interior is mostly designed for ease of use. Here you get simple knobs and buttons.

Don’t be fooled though, it still comes with a digital gauge panel to show you how full your batteries are and to track your mph, and it comes with a center console touchscreen where you can play music, make phone calls, and navigate.

While most traditional carmakers are trying to copy Tesla’s all-screen design, Nissan is keeping to its roots and bucking that trend.

Tech & Safety

The Nissan Leaf’s most impressive tech feature is Nissan’s ProPilot Assist, which is a lane assist feature that keeps your Leaf properly in between highway lanes and behind the car ahead to help mitigate accidents.

It also has the Around View Monitor which uses a camera around the vehicle to give a birds-eye view when parking to help prevent collisions. This is now a standard feature!

The Leaf also includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto but does not include wireless charging.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the 2022 Leaf a five-star safety rating as well.
