The 2022 Nissan Leaf An EV Bargain Post

The Nissan Leaf was first introduced in 2010 and has been through many iterations since then. The 2022 Leaf does not disappoint! And before we go any further, we have to say, the Nissan Leaf is currently the least expensive EV in the United States if you take advantage of the full federal tax credit for EV purchases. Take that Tesla!

So, what makes the 2022 Nissan Leaf so great? Let’s take a look!

A Solid EV at a Bargain

The 2022 Nissan Leaf comes in five trim levels and offers two battery sizes. The key difference between the normal and Plus models is that the Plus models come with a bigger battery pack, which offers more power and a longer range.

Here is how the trims break down by range:

  • Leaf S: 149 miles
  • Leaf SV: 149 miles
  • Leaf S Plus: 226 miles
  • Leaf SV Plus: 215 miles
  • Leaf SL Plus: 215 miles

What Stands Out

Without a gas engine, the Leaf is very quiet. The Leaf is quite agile and can dart through city traffic and make highway merges without a problem. It smoothly transitions up to speed, which you don’t often get from even a gas-powered economy car.

Like most EVs, the 2022 Leaf offers one-pedal driving which can make driving more convenient while also boosting range. When you switch on the e-Pedal function, the Leaf won’t coast if you take your foot off the accelerator. Instead, the motor will slow down to a stop while feeding the captured braking energy back into the battery pack.

Another bonus: the 2022 Leaf comes with a bunch of advanced safety features that come standard. These include blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, and reverse automatic braking.

Exterior

Starting at the front, the Leaf has a grille that is completely covered since it is EV and doesn’t need air to flow over the engine. The front has aggressive headlights and 17-inch wheels.

Looking towards the back, we have blue accents and boomerang-shaped taillights that were brought over from the 370Z.

To get inside, the two front doors have a button instead of a key to lock and unlock the car. You just walk up to the car, open it, and go!

Interior Features

When you step inside the 2022 Leaf, you won’t find a high-tech minimal interior as you’d see in a Tesla or Volkswagen. Instead, you get a modest, 8-inch display and buttons for climate control, on-pedal driving, and switches to turn on heated seats.

This iteration of the Leaf comes with a heated steering wheel, plush leather seats, and beautiful blue accents throughout.

For technology, it comes equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and Pro Pilot Assist on the upper trims.

Charging

The 2022 Nissan Leaf comes with an at-home SAE charger that can charge your Leaf overnight and a quick charge port for fast charging. The fastest way to charge your Leaf is with the fast charger, also known as a DC quick charging, or Level 3 charging. The Leaf uses CHAdeMO technology for these rapid charges, so to use a fast charge station, you would plug the vehicle into the station’s CHAdeMO connector.

You should get a zero to 80% charge in about an hour with a fast charger.

Bottom Line

The Nissan Leaf offers an entry-level EV experience at a price that any consumer could afford. Its pleasant driving experience, hatchback utility, and standard safety features make it a must-have for the budget-conscious driver who wants an environmentally friendly option at an affordable price.

Amid all the flashy EV’s that are available, it’s nice to see an EV that is accessible to the masses.
