Whatever your priorities are, this comparison between these two popular compact SUVs will help you decide which one is right for you. Ready? Let’s go!
Performance
The 2022 Nissan Rogue comes equipped with a 3-cylinder version of Nissan’s variable-compression turbocharged engine. Its 1.5-liter engine makes 201 horsepower and 225 pound-feet of torque. The engine’s peak torque hits at just about 2,800 rpm which is ideal for driving in city traffic.
Its standard continuously variable transmission has simulated shift points that make it feel like a conventional automatic transmission. And its available AWD system features Snow and Off-Road modes.
The 2022 front-wheel Rogue is rated at 33 mpg combined, while the all-wheel-drive version rates at 31 mpg.
The base 2022 Toyota RAV4 is equipped with a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with 203 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. It also has an 8-speed automatic transmission.
You can select different terrain modes on the all-wheel drive RAV4 as well. There is also a hybrid version of the 2.5-liter engine on the 2022 RAV4 Hybrid.
The 2022 Toyota RAV4 with its base engine offers 30 mpg combined, but the hybrid model offers 40 mpg.
Infotainment & Technology
Most 2022 Nissan Rogues come with a standard 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. It also has some throwback amenities like a CD player and an auxiliary input jack. On higher trim levels, you can upgrade to a 9-inch touchscreen.
The base Rogue S includes one USB input and one USB-C input, and the SV trim gets two of each.
The Rogue’s infotainment interface earned high marks for ease of use from J.D. Power. It ranked third among all compact SUVs in 2021.
Toyota offers three infotainment display options on the 2022 RAV4. The lower trims come with a 7-inch display, while the Prime SE has an 8-inch display. Higher trims get a 9-inch display. All versions come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integrations.
The base RAV4 LE comes with one USB port while all other trims have six USB ports.
Safety Features
Every Nissan Rogue comes with Nissan’s Safety Shield 360. It includes safety features like:
- Forward collision warning
- Automatic emergency braking
- Pedestrian and cyclist detection
- Blind spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert
- Lane departure warning
The SV trim also includes Nissan’s ProPilot Assist, a form of semi-autonomous driving assistance. It includes features like traffic jam assist, adaptive cruise control, and lane-centering assistance. All Rogues also come with rear low-speed emergency braking.
All versions of the 2022 Toyota RAV4 include Toyota’s Safety Sense 2.0. It has the same features as Nissan’s Safety Shield 360, plus lane-keeping assistance.
Toyota also includes traffic sign recognition and higher trims that have access to the low-speed front and rear automatic braking.
Comfort and Utility
The 2022 Nissan Rogue ranks high for comfort levels. Seating options include cloth, simulated leather, and leather. Plus, all 2022 Rogue’s have rear-seat air conditioning vents.
Nissan also offers lower anchors for child seats in all three rear seats which is a rare convenience in SUVs. The 2022 Rogue has 31.6 cubic feet of cargo that expands to 76.1 cubic feet when the rear seats are folded. The SV model has a power liftgate, while the SL and Platinum add hands-free access.
The seats in the 2022 Toyota RAV4 are comfortable though storage areas are lacking. Instead of offering leather, you have the choice of cloth or vegan simulated leather.
The base Rogue does not offer rear air-conditioning vents, but all other trims do.
The RAV4 has 37.6 cubic feet of cargo space while folding the rear seats down opens up 69.8 cubic feet. A power liftgate is an available feature on most trims, and hands-free access is available on higher trim levels.
Bottom Line
Though these compact SUVs are very similar, the 2022 Nissan Rogue edges the Toyota RAV4 out of the competition due to more cargo space, and better infotainment features.
