The 2022 Nissan Rogue: What’s New?

For 2021, the Nissan Rogue got completely redesigned, but critics of the five-seat crossover have said that its drawback is its 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. But not to worry! The 2022 Nissan Rogue is changing that and offers ample upgrades and enhancements to keep it at the top of the crossover market.
Our team at Maus Nissan North Tampa takes a look at what’s new with the Nissan Rogue for 2022!
What’s New for 2022?
Nissan is ditching the 2.5-liter four-cylinder and for 2022 is swapping it out for Nissan’s proprietary variable compression and turbocharged motor, (VC-Turbo) which is a 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine similar to the VC-Turbo in the Altima.
Compared with the old 2.5-liter engine, the VC-Turbo gives the Rogue a peppier feel with a 7.5-second sprint to 60 mph.
The VC-Turbo is the most advanced engine that Nissan has ever offered to the U.S. market, and it offers 201 horsepower and 225 lb.-ft. of torque. This clever engine puts the Rogue’s driving experience more in line with the bad-boy promise of its name.
Also, for 2022, is a new Xtronic CVT gearbox with a twin oil pump system and upgrades to improve acceleration and fuel economy.
Plus, the Rogue’s new engine is built here in the United States at Nissan’s powertrain assembly plant in Tennessee.
Fuel Economy
EPA ratings for the 2022 Nissan Rogue’s fuel economy come in at 30 mpg in the city, and 37 on the highway. Alternately, all-wheel-drive trims will offer 30 mpg in the city and 36 on the highway.
The 2022 Nissan Rogue offers an increase of three combined mpg versus the 2021 model.
Interior and Cargo
The 2022 Rogue borrows interior styling cues from the Altima and Sentra and offers a quiet cabin, thoughtful storage, a bi-level dashboard, and a squared-off shift knob for a modern flair.
Cloth seating comes standard, but the SV trim can be upgraded with optional faux-leather upholstery, while the SL and Platinum Rogue get genuine leather. Available features also include three-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel.
Passenger space is about the same as the 2021 model but offers ample legroom. The cargo capacity behind the rear seat comes in at 37 cubic feet.
Trim Levels + Tech
The 2022 Nissan Rogue is available in S, SV, SL, and Platinum trims. Front-wheel drive comes standard, but all-wheel drive is available as an upgrade across the board.
The base trim of the Rogue offers enhanced standard equipment including:
- 17-inch alloy wheels
- Eight-inch infotainment touchscreen
- Apple CarPlay
- Android Auto
- Satellite radio
- Rear air vents
- Two USB ports
Higher trim levels get upgraded with larger alloy wheels, a larger nine-inch infotainment screen, dual-zone climate control, and a 10-speaker Bose audio system.
Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
The 2022 Rogue is loaded with standard driver assistance and safety features making it a force to be reckoned with in competition with its rivals, the Subaru Forester and the Toyota RAV4.
Nissan’s ProPilot Assist is offered as an option on the SL trim but comes standard on the Platinum.
Key safety features on the Rogue include:
- Automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection/standard
- Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert/standard
- Adaptive cruise control with semi-autonomous driving mode/available
