The Nissan Z has a long pedigree of performance that spans 50 years and seven model generations and has long provided many with an unforgettable driving experience.

Our team at Maus Nissan of North Tampa takes a closer look at the 2023 Nissan Z Proto Spec edition and the upgraded features that make Nissan’s newest Z car unique.

What is the Nissan Z Proto Spec?

In normal fashion, the iconic Nissan Z line has created a limited trim option for its newest edition, the Nissan Z Proto Spec.

Offering only 240 vehicles with exclusive Proto Spec badging, this extremely limited trim level will include exclusive performance and interior options such as 19-inch bronze alloy wheels, leather GT-R style bucket seats and limited slip differential.

Nissan offers three trim levels, the Nissan Z Proto Spec being the highest trim option followed by the Performance and Sport models.

Performance

Equipped with a standard 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6, Nissan swapped out the automatic transmission for a six-speed manual transmission that sports 400 Horsepower and 350 lb. ft. of torque to the rear wheels.

Also included in the Proto Spec and Performance trim level is SynchroRev Match, a powerful feature pioneered by Nissan on the 370Z.

Performance Specs:

  • 0-liter twin-turbo V6
  • Six-speed manual transmission
  • 400 horsepower/ 350 lb. ft. torque
  • RWD with limited slip differential

Suspension and Braking

The 2023 Nissan Z Proto Spec features improved overall handling performance and driver feedback.

Utilizing enhanced engineering, Nissan has created a tuned chassis that draws inspiration from cutting-edge racing technology. All new double wishbone suspension has been redesigned with a higher castor angle to increase high-speed stability and straight-line tracking.

Nissan went a step further reconfiguring the multi-link suspension system and reinforcing structural components to provide more rigidity. Wider tires and larger shocks were added to improve handling in corners.

Most important of all, the braking system has seen a major upgrade for the Proto Spec with 14-inch rotors in the front and 13.8-inch rotors in the rear. Aluminum floating calipers are included and available in different finishes.

  • Larger monotube shocks
  • Wider Tires
  • Redesigned suspension
  • 14-inch rotors front / 13.8-inch rotors rear

Interior Features

The Nissan Z Proto Spec has all the enhanced interior options you could want! GT-R-inspired leather bucket seats and shifter come in three color options, black, red, and blue. The Proto also packs an upgraded 8-speaker Bose sound system.

  • Leather seats and door panels
  • Color options Black/ Red/ Blue
  • 4-way adjustable heated seat
  • GT-R-inspired shirt knob and bucket seats

Technology and Safety

Nissan offers a generous suite of technology to the Z Proto Spec, as well as some more traditional elements that honor the classic interior design of the past. While several large digital displays provide an array of convenience and safety, three analog gauges remain front and center on the dash facing the driver.

  • 3-inch display
  • 9-inch touchscreen (Nissan Connect)
  • Programmable shift indicator
  • 8-speaker Bose sound system with noise cancellation

All trim levels are equipped with Nissan Connect and contain intuitive safety features such as:
