2024 Nissan Ariya Vs. Toyota Bz4X: What to Know

While both of these EVs are enticing, there are several reasons, why we would choose the Nissan Ariya over the Toyota BZ4X.

Performance

The 2024 Ariya offers more horsepower than the bZ4X with 214 to 389 horsepower vs the Toyota’s 201-214 horsepower.

Both EVs offer all-wheel drive.

Powertrain

Overall, the Nissan offers better torque from its different engine offerings. These electric motor offerings include:

  • 214-hp, Electric Motor
  • 238-hp, Electric Motor
  • 335-hp, Electric Motor
  • 389-hp, Electric Motor

The Toyota on the other hand offers these two electric engines:

  • 201-hp, Electric Motor
  • 214-hp, Electric Motor

Handling

With a smaller turning radius, the Ariya offers better handling which allows drivers to easily maneuver in tight parking spots or sharp corners.

Comfort

If you’re a rear passenger in the Ariya, you’ll be pleasantly pleased. This EV offers a lot more room than the bZ4x. It also has a little more head and legroom than the Toyota, making it a more comfortable vehicle all around.

Cargo Space

Both vehicles can fit up to 5 people inside, but cargo-wise, the Nissan Ariya has more room than the Toyota bX4X for groceries, sports equipment, and more.

Interior

Even if you choose the lower-end Ariya trim, it will come well-equipped with several features and amenities including:

  • Heated front and rear seats
  • Leather-wrapped steering wheel
  • Dual-zone climate control
  • Two 12.3-inch infotainment displays
  • Apple CarPlay & Android Auto

Plus, it comes with unrivaled driver-assistance technology including:

  • Automatic front and rear emergency braking
  • Lane-keeping assist
  • Blind-spot monitoring
  • Lane-collision mitigation
  • Rear cross-traffic alert
  • Driver attention monitor

You won’t get ProPilot 2.0 on the lower models, but it does come standard on the Empower+ and Platinum+ models.

The Toyota bZ4X comes in two trim levels, the XLE and Limited. Just like the Ariya, the base model is well equipped with features including:

  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Lane departure warning
  • Lane-keeping assist
  • Safe exit assist
  • Rear cross-traffic alert

Upgradeable features include a heated steering wheel, heated seats, and leatherette upholstery.

Charging + Range

The Ariya offers Level 3 Charging, with its 63 kWh battery charging from 10-80% in 35 minutes while models with the 87 kWh battery come in at 40 minutes for an 80% charge. Pretty nice!

Also, depending on the model you purchase, the driving range varies from 289 miles to 304 miles per charge.

In optimal charging conditions, the FWD bZ4X should take 30 minutes to charge to 80%, but the all-wheel-drive versions could take as long as an hour. Range-wise, the entry-level Bz4X offers up to 252 miles for the FWD trim and 228 for the AWD trim.

Bottom Line

As you can see, the 2024 Nissan Ariya outshines the Toyota bZ4X in many ways including horsepower, safety features, charging, and driving range. Plus, depending on what trim you purchase, the Ariya can be the least expensive of the two EVs.
