The 2 Special Edition 2024 Nissan GT-R Models End An Era With A Bang

It’s the end of an era. After 17 years, Nissan has announced that it will no longer be producing the R35 GT-R for the North American market. But don’t worry. As a farewell to this beloved car, Nissan will release two limited edition variants of the 2024 GT-R, the T-spec Takumi Edition and the Skyline Edition.

Our team at Maus Nissan of North Tampa shares what we know about these new variants and when they might be hitting showrooms here in the United States.

T-Spec Takumi Edition

This edition is meant to honor the Japanese craftsmen (Takumi) who assemble each R35 engine by hand. It comes with Midnight Purple paint, which takes on a shimmery blue-green hue depending on the lighting conditions as a subtle nod to Godzilla lore. Also, it comes with an exclusive Mori green color scheme in the interior.

The T-Spec Takumi also gets some of the same features that are in the NISMO:

• 20-inch gold Rays wheels
• Carbon-ceramic brakes
• Dynamic control tuning
• Wide front fenders

Plus, the engine badge is etched in red instead of black. Nissan claims that its red engine badge represents its attention to precision. During the production of its twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V6, the Takumi is characterized by exact engine tolerances and component balancing.

Plus, it has a gold-plated VIN!

Skyline Edition

This edition is based on the 2024 GT-R Premium with iconic Bayside Blue paint and a matching Sora Blue interior.

According to Nissan, the iconic Bayside Blue paint was put into retirement following the historic R34 Skyline GT-R’s bow out. It was brought back in 2019 as a 50th-anniversary Edition paint scheme, and now it is back for a final send-off.

When Are These GT-R Models Available?

Both GT-R models will be available at select Nissan dealers this summer. MSRP of the Takumi Edition starts at $151,090, and the Skyline Edition comes in at $131,090.

Will There Be a New GT-R in the Future?

Nissan has been pretty tightlipped about what’s next for the next-gen GT-R. There has been some talk about a possible hybrid model, but that isn’t on the horizon anytime soon. Before focusing on bringing a fully electric GT-R replacement to the market, Nissan would likely hold out for improved battery technologies.

Nissan has said that there will be more advanced and lighter-weight solid-state batteries in production cars in 2028, so it is likely that any all-electric GT-Rs won’t be on the market until the next decade.
